Do I want a Lion or a Yorkie?

Most college graduates could tell you that they had a bad roommate or two throughout their college career. If not, well then you might need to go evaluate yourself because it could have been you. It's inevitable. You know what's not unavoidable, picking a pet that is a good roommate that suits you. So what furry friend suits you? The cute, easy Yorkie? Maybe a lion?

When you are picking a pet, its important to remember why you are getting the pet in the first place. If you are a farmer, you probably don't want to get a basset hound to help you in the fields. If you are college roommate, and don't want to be the bad one, then don't pick the hyper sheep herding dog and leave it for your roommates to take care of. Here are few dogs that I wanted to highlight to help people understand what kind of animals would be best for them. Over the next couple of blog posts, we'll break down different animal breeds for specific types of owners.

GREAT DANE

The gentle giant of its breed. This majestic dog is actually a great college roommate. This dog needs very little grooming. It loves people and doesn't really need the activity that some small breeds require. This dog is easy going and only needs a little bit of exercise. Just remember that you can't leave any animal cooped up in a tiny apartment but this dog doesn't mind sitting next to you while you do your homework. Not big barkers and easy to train. The sad thing about this breed is that is has a lot of health issues.

BORDER COLLIE

The Border Collie is one of the smartest animals in the world. Brains and energy, this dog is a lot to handle. Not for the college student or first family dog. If you need help on the ranch or farm, there isn't a better dog. This award winning breed is one of the best dogs for show. It can be too smart for its own good. A difficult dog to train if you don't have the time. They are excellent with other other animals and working in fields. This dog was made for the farm. This dog is very high maintenance and needs some grooming.

GOLDEN RETRIEVER

No you don't need to actually get a lion. The Golden Retriever is a member of the family. It does need some time and attention. The blond beauty was made for dad to take hunting. It was also made to help mom watch the kids. Easy to train and easy to love, Retrievers need the love and time that you can give them. The energy is a trade off for its ability to be trained. If you need to give the kids a chore to do, brushing the dog could be a good one, because this dog does need some maintenance.

There are so many breeds of dogs. Future owners need to understand what they are getting themselves into. Subscribe to our E-books to hear about other breeds.
